Lake Conroe Fishing Report
By Larry J. LeBlanc
Fishing is fair on Lake Conroe. The water temperature has been running around 52 degrees and the water is a little cloudy. The level at this time is 201.10 feet according to the Texas Water Development Board and pool is 201 feet.
Black bass fishing has been fair. The local tournament anglers are using medium and large crank baits as well as spinner baits around docks at depths of three to six feet. Guide Wayne Whitehead reports bass are also being caught from 10 to 16 feet around deep brush using Trick Worms and Cincos in dark colors and worked slowly. Not much has changed in the past few weeks.
Crappie fishing is slow. Whitehead said they are reportedly in water 30 feet deep at the FM 1097 bridge and on the side of brush piles at 18 to 20 feet deep. Some crappie are also being taken around boat docks at the marinas. Minnows are good bait but Whitehead said he is also having good results with jigs.
Whitehead said bream have also been caught on the brush with the crappie and are being caught on worms.
Catfish are good. The best action is on baited holes around 20 to 30 feet deep. They are running in size from two and one-half to four pounds. Shrimp dipped in cheese is excellent bait for catfish right now as are chicken livers and punch baits. Jug line anglers are catching blues up to 30 pounds on live bait.
White bass and hybrids are slow and your best chance is in trolling down to 30 feet deep. Some hybrids have been taken around the dump. Some whites have been caught at Stubblefield.
