Shepherd High School National Honor Society raises $600 for military support group

Updated: 11.13.09
The Shepherd High School (SHS) Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) held their second annual “Walk for Our Warriors walk-a-thon” on Saturday, November 7.

The event raises money for the FAITH Military Support Group.

FAITH is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to support members of our local community who are serving in harm’s way overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This is the second year the NHS has chosen FAITH as their fall service project.

A statement from the NHS cited SAT testing, continuing economic troubles and the first day of deer hunting season as factors that produced a lower than expected turnout.

However, the organization did manage to raise over $600.

The juniors and seniors arrived at the SHS track by 8 a.m. on Saturday morning and showed their support for the US military by walking for three hours in the cold and fog.

SHS’ NHS stated that they would like to thank Cleveland Asphalt for donating the t-shirts and Shepherd Auto Parts for their help.

Anyone interested in making a donation is instructed to contact SHS English teacher India Peden by calling (936)-628-3371.
