Wildcats tamed by Indians in season finale, 42-27
Despite outgaining Cleveland 324-302 and earning 12 more first downs than the Indians, Splendora couldn’t overcome the big plays put on them.
Cleveland’s scored eight touchdowns averaging just less than 40 yards per touchdown as the Indians cruised to victory over Splendora 42-27 at Wildcat Stadium Friday night.
The Indians (9-1, 6-0) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to runs from 23 and 39 yards out from Trey Richardson and Jamaul Ross.
Splendora (2-8, 1-5) got on the scoreboard early in the second quater when Travis Scherer found pay dirt on a 15-yard scamper.
Scherer went on to lead Splendora in rushing with 87 yards and two touchdowns.
The Indians answered back immediately, as Freddie Carter took the ensuing kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown.
Carter’s return was the first of four straight touchdowns scored by Cleveland, including another score from Carter coming four yards out late in the first half.
The Wildcats scored 21 unanswered points to close out the game, starting with a Scherer’s second touchdown of the night, a 6-yard run midway through the third quarter.
Splendora scored again on a Jared Carter 8-yard run with 9:59 remaining in the game to close the gap to 42-21.
The Wildcats final score came on a Jack Addison 17-yard run with 7:09 left in the game as Splendora pulled with in 15 but it wasn’t enough as Cleveland went held on after that to cruise to victory.
