It’s one for the dogs.

The fifth annual Signatures Author Series from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, located at 1601 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands, features “Marley and Me” author John Grogan.

“Every year at the event we pass out a sheet asking people who they would like to hear from next year,” said Isela Atwood, series chairwomen.

Keynote speaker Grogan, author of “Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World’s Worst Dog,” a No. 1 national bestseller that was made into a major motion picture, is a former Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper columnist and the author of two best-selling books.

Registration and book sales are from 10-11:30 a.m.

From 10:30 a.m. to noon is the Underwriters Private Reception and Chair Signing with Grogan. A silent auction for the signed chair ends at 2 p.m. Last year, the winning bid was $1,500. This year, the chair was provided by the Jane Page Design group in The Woodlands.

Lunch will be served at noon, followed by Grogan’s speech from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Each year, a local organization is selected to benefit from the annual Signatures Author Series. This year it is Montgomery Pet Partners’ R.E.A.D. Program.

“We try to make this a literary event and try to also benefit a literary organization in our community,” said Troye Skipworth, The John Cooper School development director. “Since we have John Grogan from ‘Marley and Me,’ we thought Montgomery Pet Partners would be great.”

Local animal organizations will also have booths set up at the event.

“We also have visiting authors that, sometimes they’re local and sometimes they’re not, come to promote their books,” Skipworth said.

Woodlands author Erin Rice wrote the suspense novel “What Happened on Smith Street,” which chronicles the downfall of a corporation.

Native Houstonian Quinn Holladay’s debut novel “Dropping the Other Shoe” is considered “chick lit,” a genre she says she loves.

Woodlands resident and Exxon Mobil retiree R. Merial Martin’s first novel “Deterrent” is a fast-paced, sociopolitical crime thriller, and his newest book, “Welford Street Miracles,” is based on the author’s experiences in his hometown of Port Arthur.

Woodlands resident Suzanne Young Seright’s byline for her book, “Closets in the Heart” is Suzanne Adair Young, to include her maiden name of Adair, honoring her Cherokee ancestors, according to a John Cooper School press release. The fictional storyline deals with how the heroine refuses to allow painful relationships and life experiences to be a burden.

Pastor Suzette Caldwell’s book, “Praying to Change Your Life,” focuses on instruction, exercises, personal stories and testimonies surrounding prayer and its power in everyday life, according to a John Cooper School press release.

Life coach Indrani Goradia, a master-certified life coach with Martha Beck Inc., is the author of “The Indrani Principle: Inhale Life, Exhale Joy.”

“Dreaming Anastasia” is a contemporary young adult fantasy that incorporates Russian folklore, mystery, love and a history-altering mission written by Joy Preble.

Tom McCloud’s “Riddles in Time” is the first volume of a three-novel adventure mystery series.

Melissa Williams’ first children’s book, “Iggy the Iguana,” is targeted at elementary school students between the ages of 7 and 11. Williams resides in Austin.

Between 600 and 800 attendees are expected from the Greater Houston area. So far, nearly 600 tickets have been sold, Atwood said.

“Our goal is to fill 800 to 1,000 seats,” she said. “The more money Signatures makes, the more money that goes to our benefactor.”

Table sponsorships are available at the following levels: $7,500, $5,000, $3,000 and $1,250. Individual seats are $75 each.
