| Woodlands lawyers offered estate plans for Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constables and Shenandoah Police Department/Emergency Services District on Saturday. |
East Montgomery County Improvement District election: Voters approved a half-cent sales tax for the East Montgomery County Improvement District and the three emergency service districts in the area Tuesday. EMCID held the election separate from the countywide general election, so results were not available until Wednesday. Unofficially, 548 people, or 64 percent, voted for the sales tax.
Wills for heroes: The Woodlands Bar Association held its third annual “Wills for Heroes” event Saturday at the Shenandoah Municipal Complex.
Local attorneys volunteered to prepare wills, directives to physicians and other legal documents for the families of those who serve our community – all free of charge. This year’s Wills for Heroes event benefited the families of the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office and the Shenandoah Police Department/Emergency Services District.
“It is an honor for us to give something back to those who protect and serve our county every day,” said Jeff Kaplan, chair of the event. “We have had the privilege of providing basic estate plans for more than 30 heroes and their families, totaling over 120 total estate planning documents.”
In 2008, Wills for Heroes benefited the Montgomery County Hospital District EMTs; and in 2007, the event was held for local firefighters.
“Our members have responded in record numbers to our call for attorneys to assist with Wills for Heroes,” said Karen West, WBA president. “This event is so meaningful to us because we can offer our unique skills to help our dedicated public servants.”
Winter livestock feeding: To better understand the supplementation planning process for a herd, a program will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Montgomery County Extension Office, located at 9020 FM 1484 in Conroe. A variety of hay samples have been analyzed, and the results will be used to construct feeding plans for different classes of livestock. Dr. Jason Cleere will be on hand to interpret the results of hay submitted from Montgomery County.

Clarification: The fifth annual Signatures Author Series is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, located at 1601 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands, with “Marley and Me” author John Grogan as the keynote speaker. The headline on Wednesday’s story incorrectly claimed the event would take place at the school campus.
