A summary of incidents recently reported to the West University police
Suspended license
A driver was arrested the night of Oct. 25 in the 6000 block of Weslayan Street after it would found she gave a false name to police. It was determined her license had been suspended, and she had a warrant issued for her arrest.
Juveniles recovered
Two missing youths were found Oct. 26 in a vehicle traveling north in the 5700 block of Rutgers Street, when it was pulled over for displaying an expired regitration. The stop was made in the 3300 block of Robinhood Street at about 4 a.m. The juveniles parents were contacted, and they were taken to the Chimney Rock Center for Juveniles.
Failure to stop
A complainant told police on the morning of Oct. 29 that an unoccupied vehicle was struck in the 2600 block of Arbuckle Street, but its driver did not stop.
Police were told Oct. 29 that a hit-and-run had occurred Oct. 17. The complainant said her parked vehicle was struck.
Soliciting
A solicitor was arrested Friday in the 3700 block of Sunset Boulevard for not being registered with the city. The incident took place at about 3:30 p.m.
Burglary of vehicle
A complainant told police Friday that his vehicle had been burglarized, while parked in the 2600 block of Bissonnet Street. He said the passenger’s-side window had been forced open, and property was removed. The crime was reported at about 8:45 p.m.
Outstanding warrants
A motorist, stopped early Friday morning in the 2600 block of Werlein Street for not stopping a stop sign, was arrested for having two outstanding arrest warrants in West University Place. He also had seven warrants from outside agencies. The stop was made in the 6800 block of Kirby Drive.
Fraud
A resident of the 4200 block of Riley Street told police Oct. 18 that someone had used his personal information to open cell phone accounts without permission.
He found out about crime after receiving an unwanted phone in the mail. The company told him four accounts had been opened and calls had been made.
Marijuana possession
A motorist was arrested Oct. 18 on suspicion of marijuana possession in the 3900 block of Arnold Street.
Police stopped the vehicle at about 9 p.m. for traveling north in the 6100 block of Weslayan Street with defective equipment.
The arresting officer said he smelled burned marijuana and found the drug during a search of the vehicle.
bike found
A resident of the 3700 block of Arnold Street found a bicycle in the front yard the afternoon of Oct. 18. When it was still there the next day, police were called, and it was taken to the department’s bike rack.
Computers missing
A merchant in the 5800 block of Kirby Drive told police Oct. 19 that at about 7:30 p.m. employees noticed two laptop computer were missing from the display area. A store associate said two customers had just left.
Burglary
A resident of the 3700 block of Sunset Boulevard told police Oct. 21 that someone had entered his residence and removed property. Among the things taken in the Oct. 13 theft was a check that was cashed two days later.
Warrants
A driver, stopped Oct. 22 when a computer check showed the vehicle’s registration to be expired, was arrested for having seven warrants.
The stop was conducted in the the 3200 block of Sunset Boulevard. In addition to being booked for the warrants, the driver was cited not having a driver's license and failure to have insurance.
