OAK RIDGE NORTH – The Conroe Tigerettes’ season came to a close Tuesday night as they fell to Klein Oak 25-18, 25-7, 25-16 in the Region II-5A bi-district match at Oak Ridge High School.

The Tigerettes clinched the fourth playoff spot in District 14-5A heading into this match and finished with an overall record of 17-22.

Klein Oak took control early in the first set, taking a 4-0 lead with its first service. From there the Lady Panthers were able to gain a 22-13 lead on the Tigerettes off kills by Bridget Benditz, Megan Schwartz, who had 17 kills on the night, and Hallie McDonald. Down by nine, Conroe needed a boost to get its offense going for a late rally, and a block by Sarah Williams and Blair Alger did just that.

The Tigerettes were able to get within four points of Klein Oak’s lead off kills by Williams and blocks from Alger and Shelbey Harrison, who had three kills on the night. However, a tip by Klein’s Keelie Arneson, who had 35 assists, gave the service back to the Lady Panthers who served out the game, taking a 25-18 win.

Conroe scored just four points at the start of the second game before Klein Oak excelled at the net against the Conroe defense. The Lady Panthers scored 15 points off kills by Schwartz, Benditz and McDonald. Arneson and McDonald also provided numerous blocks which allowed Klein Oak to keep its streak alive. Conroe managed to add three more points to their score before Klein Oak finished out the set with a 10-point streak to take the set 25-7.

The third set began much like the second ended as Klein Oak took a 20-9 lead over Conroe. The Tigerettes were able to put five points together before Klein Oak got the ball back again. A deflected spike by Katelyn Blum gave Conroe the serve with the score 22-16, however a kill by McDonald put the ball back in the Lady Panthers’ court and Klein Oak served out the match to take a 25-16 win.

Klein Oak advances to the area round of the playoffs and will face the winner of Georgetown and Cy Falls.
