FFA earnsnational honor
The National FFA Organization recently selected the Clear Lake FFA Chapter as a two-star winner in the National FFA Chapter Award program, from a pool of more than 600 candidates nationwide.
The chapter members have been invited to attend the 82nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 21-24, where they will be recognized for this honor.
The award program recognizes FFA chapters for developing and conducting a detailed Program of Activities. Each activity provides opportunities for members to excel in the either student, chapter or community development.
Chapters may earn a one-, two- or three-star rating on their application. For more information, visit ww.ffa.org.
Dance teamplans fundraiser
The Clear Brook Celebrities dance team will hold its annual garage sale and car wash on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to noon, on the Clear Brook High campus, 4607 FM 2351 in Friendswood.
The proceeds of this fundraiser will help defray the cost of costumes and competition fees. For more information, call Kathy LaBrode at 281-486-7882.
Women’s healthin the spotlight
A “Love Your Body” and Women’s Health Expo presented by University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Student Life Office and Intercultural & International Student Services is scheduled for Oct. 19 – 22. The event includes displays and a variety of on-campus activities.
The “Love Your Body” event will include educational displays, a relaxation room and craft activities in the Bayou Building’s Garden Room and Atrium I on Oct. 19, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
On Oct. 20, campus organizations and departments will share health information during the Women’s Health Expo in the Bayou Building Atrium I, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Oct. 22 is Think Pink Day when students, faculty and community members are asked to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.

Google classstarting soon
Businesses and individuals who want their web site to appear near the top of a Google search can benefit from a two-hour workshop Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the College of the Mainland Learning Center-North County in League City (www.com.edu/NC).
Getting to the First Page of Google includes strategies to boost web site positioning in search engines, best directories for registering a web site, differences between on-page and off-page optimization, and other topics of special interest to business owners or individuals with web sites.

University of Houston-Clear Lake, through The National Society of Leadership and Success, will present several broadcast speaker programs in collaboration with the university’s Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement. All are invited to attend.
Co-author of award-winning bestseller “The Leadership Challenge,” Jim Kouzes, will present a program by the same title on Oct. 20, 6 – 7 p.m. An encore presentation is scheduled for Nov. 4, noon – 1:30 p.m., in the Student Services and Classroom Building, room 1.202.07. College of the Mainland’s new Collegiate High School class includes high school juniors and seniors from Dickinson, Friendswood, Hitchcock, La Marque, Santa Fe, and Texas City. In all, 65 area students are enrolled for the fall semester. In January, students from Clear Creek ISD are expected to enroll in the popular program. Visit www.com.edu/chs. for more.
