Oktoberfest comes to Sacred Heart again
By Kassia Micek
Area residents soon can enjoy Sacred Heart Catholic School’s annual Oktoberfest, a major fundraiser for the school.
Scheduled for noon to 10 p.m. Oct. 17 on the school grounds, located at 615 McDade St. in Conroe, the event will feature entertainment for the entire family.
“This is our biggest fundraiser for the school,” said Desirae Gregg, president of the Sacred Heart Catholic School Parent Teacher Organization. “All the proceeds go directly back to the PTO to purchase items for the school. … All of it goes to directly impact the students and teachers at the school.”
Previous years have provided up to $100,000, Gregg said.
“That’s the goal we shoot for,” she said. “We hope to do that good or better.”
In the past, the fundraiser provided for computer and technology equipment for the 300-student campus as well as playground equipment and “wish list” classroom items for teachers.
“This money goes to pay for the extra things the school needs,” Gregg said.
Oktoberfest offers traditional carnival activities and food on the grounds outside until 5 p.m. Cash bingo will be from noon to 4 p.m.
From noon to 6:30 p.m., silent auction items, including gift baskets, fall-themed decorations, gift cards and Houston Ballet tickets, will be available for bidding.
The live auction will start at 6:30 p.m. and feature a trip to Costa Rica, class craft projects, class pottery pieces, a baseball bat signed by retired Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio and a trip to Tapatio Springs, a golf resort in the Texas Hill Country.
Catered dinner plates will be available for $7 each from 5-7 p.m.
The PTO also will raffle off a trip for four to the Grand Canyon (valued at $2,500), a 42-inch TV, Houston Astros season tickets and an iPod. Raffle tickets are $2 each, or a book of six for $10, and will be available for purchase from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 17 or any school day before then at the school office.
In its 51st year, Sacred Heart educates students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth.
