On Aug. 26, scouts of Troop 1550 honored one of their own. Chad Holub was recognized at a court of honor for reaching the rank of Eagle Scout.
Holub belongs to the Antelope Patrol of Troop 1550 and is a 16-year-old junior at Klein High School. He gave back to his community by completing an eagle project at his former elementary school, Kuehnle Elementary, in the Spring Creek Oaks neighborhood where Holub lives.
His eagle project involved replacing a 30-by-19-foot map of the United States on the school’s parking lot. Chad, along with teachers, fellow scout and troop members, parents and friends sketched the enlarged map onto the cafeteria wall with butcher paper and cut out all of the states, placed them onto the concrete like a puzzle and drew them into place. He included state capitols in the artwork and then painted the large drawing onto the concrete. Kuehnle principal Maryanna Rhemann also helped Holub and his group with the project.
Holub attended cub scouts and Webelos all five years he was at Kuehnle with den leader Mary Criaco and Cubmaster David Craig. He then joined troop 1550 at Christ the Good Shepherd from sixth grade until tenth grade with Scoutmasters Glenn Adams, Bill Mansfield, and David Craig.
Holub’s offices during his scouting journey included patrol leader (a position elected by his peers), assistant quartermaster and quartermaster. His parents are Mary and James Holub, and his brother, Chase, is a junior Ocean Engineering student at Texas A&M University.
