Rotarians partner with Green for Immunization Day

Updated: 08.21.09
For 14 consecutive years, U.S, Rep. Gene Green has helped sponsor an Immunization Day in his district and this year will be no exception. Green, who has partnered again with the North Shore Rotary Club for the event, will sponsor two sites in the North Channel area.

The free immunizations are for school age children within the 29th Congressional District. Parents must bring shot records with them. They are also encouraged to contact the school their children will be attending to make sure they get the required shots.

There are new requirements for children entering kindergarten through seventh grade and vaccines are required for entry into school.

In addition to receiving vaccines, free school supplies from the Rotarians will be given out while they last.

Dr. Donald Nino, a member of the North Shore Rotary Club and chairman for the local events, said more than 1,400 children and parents passed through. “We expect a similar and possibly a larger turnout this year,” he said.

Rotarians volunteer to assist in the community awareness project each year. With the media coverage of the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, more parents and schools are on heightened alert to make sure every child is vaccinated.

The Immunization Day is on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Two clinics are set up, one on the north side of I-10 and the second in the south.

The south location is at Galena Park High School, 1000 Keene St., in Galena Park. For info at that location, please contact 832-386-2800.

The north location is at Sheldon Elementary School, 17203 Hall Sheppard Road in Sheldon. For info at that location, please contact 281-456-6700.
