Nine Spring athletes advance to AAU Junior Olympics

Junior Olympic spots were up for grabs as the top athletes from the Gulf Coast Region competed July 10 and 11 in the Area 13 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics National Qualifier at Klein Memorial Stadium.
Athletes from age 5 through 18 competed in various track and field events, with the top six in each event and age group earning awards and the top four advancing to the Junior Olympics.
“I am so proud of our athlete’s,” said Paul Durisseau, head coach. “Their hard work and dedication has truly paid off.”
Representing the Spring area, 14 Texas Stallions Junior Olympians competed, with eight qualifying for the Junior Olympics.
Lavoxkeia Carnes earned one gold and two silver medals in all of her events. She is the regional champion in the primary girls 400-meter dash and silver medalist in the long jump and 100-meter dash.
Harrison Moore showed dominance in the primary boy division by taking the gold medal and becoming the regional champion in two of his three events, the long jump and 100-meter dash.
Also advancing to the Junior Olympics was Freddie Moore in both of his midget boy events, placing fourth in the discus throw and the shot put.
Sub-youth girl Brittany Collins was the silver medalist in the 800-meter run.
Youth girl LaKayla LaFrance took the silver and bronze medals in the 200-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles.
Youth boy Alexander Brooks finished in fourth place in the 800-meter run.
Intermediate boys Christopher Collins was the bronze medalist in the 2000-meter steeplechase and Lamont Grow was the bronze medalist in the long jump.
LaMika LaFrance had a fifth place finish in the midget girls 400-meter dash, in what proved to be one of the closest races of the championship, with only a fraction of a second separating each of the top six places.
The Stallions will be traveling to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics July 27 - August 8.
