Lilibeth André of the Bellaire area has created art that will be shown in a statewide exhibit.

“I’ve painted and drawn ever since I was a kid,” says André, “I had my first exhibition in 1980 in Mexico City.”

On July 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., André’s art will be on exhibit at the “Arte Caliente” exhibition in the Betz Art Gallery.

Arte Caliente is an exhibition that features the work of Hispanic artists.

André paints scenes and portraits from Texas as well as various places in the United States and Mexico.

“I’m pretty diverse in what I do, but I focus on representational and impressionist style, which means you can typically tell what you’re looking at,” says André.

“I go out there and I can do sketches or I can do photographic sketching,” she says.

André also does portraits by commission but she also does other types of commissioned works.

“Folks have asked me to do commissions on landscapes and other works, so it just depends on what people want if they have a specific idea,” she says.

André will be bringing unique pieces to the Arte Caliente show.

“These are two specific pieces that I created for the show,” she says, “Using myself as a model, I created two separate themes on the theme Caliente.”

She says that if there is one idea that people should take from her art, she wants people to think it is “peaceful and its strong.”
