High-speed chase passes through River Oaks

Updated: 07.09.09
A rush-hour police chase Thursday that passed through River Oaks at speeds of up to 60 mph ended when the driver of a van crashed as he exited Highway 59 near Bissonnet St., officials said.

Witnesses said the driver made U-turns over medians and cut through parking lots as he passed through the Heights and headed into the River Oaks and Upper Kirby area trying to elude police.

The van rolled to a stop after being involved in a wreck with another vehicle. Police, with guns drawn, pulled the shirtless driver from the van's window. One of the other vehicle’s occupants was taken to a hospital.

"Why are the feds messing with me so hard?" he said after being apprehended, according to Examiner media partner Channel 13-News .

The chase lasted about 30 minutes.
