Suspect’s escape plan comes to an abrupt halt
On July 3, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies S. Shandera and K. Hudson received information about a robbery in the 16003 block of Bellaire Blvd.
The complainant reported a tan vehicle pulled in front of her and stopped, forcing her to stop as well. A man pointed a gun at the complainant and told her to give him all her property. Once she complied he fled, but not before the complainant was able to record the license plate number.
Deputies were en route to that location when they observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. When the deputies activated their lights and sirens, the vehicle fled. After a short pursuit the suspect turned into the Valero Gas Station at 1603 State Highway 6 at a high rate of speed, causing the vehicle to strike one of the fuel pumps.
The suspect was thrown from the vehicle, but sustained only minor injuries. After he was checked and released from an area hospital, he was charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and taken to the Harris County Jail. Deputies discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen by Houston Police on July 2, and found property belonging to several other people in the vehicle.
Marcus Ware, 24, is being held in lieu of a $30,000. The damage to the fuel pump was estimated to be $10,000.
Computer thief nabbed
On July 4, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy E. Guajardo responded to the Walmart Store located in the 1300 block of Fry Road in reference to a theft.
When he arrived, a loss prevention officer said he observed a male suspect take a laptop computer and remove the security sensors. The suspect walked out of the store without attempting to pay for the merchandise. He was stopped and returned to the store office where the merchandise was recovered. The value of the computer was estimated to be more than $600.
Carlos Flores was charged with theft and taken to the Harris County Jail where he was later released on a $2,000 bbnd.
Woman charged in Walmart theft
On July 6, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy C. Jones responded to the 15900 block of FM 529 at the Walmart Store in reference to a theft.
When the deputy arrived, a loss prevention officer who told him she observed the suspect conceal merchandise and walk out of the store. The suspect was stopped and returned to the store office where the merchandise was recovered. The value of the merchandise was estimated to be $109.
Karess Murray, 21, was charged with theft and taken to the Harris County Jail where he was later released on a $2,000 bond.
Pair charged in home invasion
On July 8, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy M. Lunsford and B. Johnson responded to a residence in the 15700 Block of South Alley Court in reference to a burglary.
They were told there were two young girls hiding in an upstairs bedroom. When they arrived they found a shattered window and open door. The deputies checked the home and were unable to find any suspects, but did find the young girls. The girls told them someone rang their doorbell and they looked out of the “peephole”. They saw a female and a male standing at the door. A few minutes later they heard glass breaking and ran to an upstairs closet to hide. The girls said the female opened the door to the bedroom and looked inside. When she saw the girls she shouted “let’s get out of here, someone is here” and both suspects left the residence.
Using the description the girls provided, deputies found the suspects and returned them to the scene. The witnesses identified the suspects as being involved in the robbery.
Mikia Powell, 18, and a 13-year-old juvenile and were charged with burglary of a habitation. Powell is being held without bond and the juvenile was released to the custody of his parents.
Elderly man charged with DWI
On July 9, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies M. Lunsford and B. Johnson were in the 6700 block of Addicks Clodine when they observed a vehicle crossing the center stripe and nearly striking their patrol vehicle.
When they initiated a traffic stop the driver appeared to be disoriented and his speech was slurred.
The driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the Clay Road Substation where he refused to submit a sample of his breath for testing.
Raymundo Chavarria, age 67, was charged with driving while intoxicated and taken to the Harris County Jail. He was later released on a $2,500 bond. This is Chavarria’s second DWI charge.
