Texans Governing Texas: Perry: local leadership, not Washington, creates good state economy
By Lucretia Cardenas
Speaking to an exceptionally large crowd at the Conroe Noon Lions Club’s weekly meeting, Perry, the longest-serving Texas governor who is seeking a third four-year term in office, touted the state’s ability to create new jobs and establish a business-friendly environment when the rest of the nation is facing debt and job loss.
He applauded state Rep. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, for his work on a resolution that sent a “powerful message” that “Texans know how to run Texas,” Perry said.
He took a slight jab at Washington D.C. politicians about spending too much and not being in touch with local needs, but he didn’t make any direct attacks against his March primary opponent U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Dallas. However, Perry is setting himself up as the anti-Washington candidate.
On Wednesday he credited himself and the other conservative legislators’ ability to cut spending and balance the budget without raising taxes in 2003 as the stepping stone for Texas’ current good economy. He complemented the Legislature for passing a balance budget yet again this year.
“I don’t think we’re getting it right in Washington D.C.,” Perry said. “It’s spending money that hasn’t even been earned yet.”
Spending less requires sacrifices, Perry said, but he believes this is possible if government tries to govern less. He commended the Conroe Noon Lions Club for its involvement in the community and said the group is an example of sacrifice as well.
Also Wednesday, Perry’s campaign announced that Perry raised $4.2 million in the nine days following the Legislative session. His total on-hand cash is now at $9.3 million.
To add to his war chest, Perry will have soon-to-be former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin campaigning for his re-election. Palin resigned in a surprise announcement last week before completing her first term in office.

I believe that Hutchison would be a good Governor
For me it looks like a coin toss come election time
And what's with the anti-Palin nonsense - she and Hutchison have very very similar backgrounds
Palin seems to have done a good job along the way
Of course ya never know about people who put ann richards into the Governor's mansion, sent sylvester turner to Austin and named part of an airport and a downtown building after a convicted felon - mickey leland - sort of Texas' version of D.C.'s "marion barry" syndrome "

let's see ... under Gov Perry we now have the Texas Lottery being owned by an Italian Corporation and Texas public roads being transformed into Toll Roads owned by a Spanish Corporation ...
As of today, there is no evidence whatsoever that Texas lottery monies is going to the Texas Education system ... none.... and that's because of GTech, the Italian Corporation that owns our Texas lottery, ... which deposits the monies in the General Fund, ..to be used by however special interest groups want their 'paid for' legislators to act on ..
if you don't believe it whiskyecho, .. first thing you need to do is quit drinking used toilet water and then do a little research .. improve your mind and selfworth w.e.
As for as the lotto, .. if you ck out the state of Georgia, which owns its state lotto system outright, every highschool senior with a B average or better gets to go to college for free for 4 yrs, it's called the Hope Scholarships, which work from and thru lottery monies ..
Georgia is now in the low teens in education while under Perry Texas has moved to 48th or 49th, . .. depending on which data you use ..
Perry is not a conservative, neither was his predecessor, .. they are both NeoCons , .. Corporatists
... prove me wrong if you can

says: "..prove me wrong if you can.." (you're just too easy, as I'm sure you've been all girlie-life)
read this (you can read, right ?): http://www.txlottery.org/export/sites/default/Supporting_Education/
but, if you're lazy (like others here), it says:
"..11 YEARS = $11 BILLION FOR TEXAS EDUCATION
The Texas Lottery has generated well over $16 billion for the state of Texas since the first ticket was sold in 1992. Prior to 1997, the proceeds were allocated to the General Revenue Fund. Since 1997, all Texas Lottery proceeds have been transferred to the Foundation School Fund to support public education in our state. The Texas Lottery has contributed more than $11 billion to the Foundation School Fund, and of that total, nearly $1 billion ($983.1 M) was contributed in fiscal year 2008. Other Texas Lottery funds such as unclaimed prizes revert back to the state for programs authorized by the Texas Legislature.."
62% to prizes paid
27% to School Fund
5% to retailer commissions
5% to administration
1% to other State programs
"toilet water" indeed "

She is either so confused about the blatant facts or she is flirting and acting like a high school cheerleader candidate. And, just because some of us don't like her doesn't anymore mean we are "jealous" of her than you are jealous of President Obama or someone else you don't like. Get real! She is very UNclassy and UNgraceful, except for a high school airhead! "

Mickey Leland and a few others made a good amount of money in the late '80s from a real estate sale to the Post Office for a distribution center on Aldine Bender.
Around the same time he had took an unauthorized trip to Cuba, visiting F Castro for whatever socialistic ideology they both visualized.
I believe there was an uproar from the administration in office at that time, ..but no conviction,
... probably due to the fact shortly thereafter his plane was shot down somewhere in Africa .. killing him and a couple of other sympathizers ...

For the record: the late Congressman Mickey Leland was never convicted of any felony. So far as I know, he was never convicted of anything. The TSU administration filed charges against him and others during his student activist days, but they withdrew those charges and he later became a member of the university's pharmacy faculty. He and several others (including other congressmen, I think) were arrested at least once during protests at the South African Embassy in Washington while he was in Congress, but no charges were filed. He made no secret of the fact that he did NOT share ideology with Castro, but that he WAS interested in the infant mortality advances made in Cuba after Castro came to power. The political prisoners he got Castro to release were American CIA agents. His plane was not shot down. He died -- along with 15 others -- while on an international food relief mission to refugee camps in Ethiopia when their plane flew into stormy weather and hit the side of a mountain in zero visibility.
Please try to get back on topic.

Is that why people don't like someone? Is it only because they are jealous? I didn't realize how jealous you are of President Obama and all the "liberals" you rant against. Thanks for the explanation. I knew there must be one!
ps--I am not jealous of beautiful people. I usually admire them, even if some are kind of shallow, and I have had many good friends who are very attractive.
htfno--
You weren't listening to her talk--you were looking at her "sexiness"--don't lie. We don't need a sexy, flirty president with a hassle of kids. She has four or five! Let her stay home and raise them so she won't seem so stupid. It's a cinch you and woodlands aren't listening to what she says! Maybe she will win some election with her looks and flirtiness. Men's fantasies go crazy when she is on tv, I hear! The presidency is a serious thing--not a Miss America contest. "

Also, doesn't surprise that Palin will be coming to TX to help him campaign for the Republican nomination for Governor again---she when she went into labor with Trig, that lovely special-needs child.
