Students at Lifestyle Christian School are jumping for joy over their success in jumping rope.

After participating in a two-hour Jump-A-Thon March 12 and 13, students from kindergarten through sixth grade raised $10,350 and just this week the school received a $10,000 matching donation.

“We raised money for the gym floor,” fifth-grader Ryan Mullinnix, 11, said.

The event was scheduled to cover the cost of the school’s new wood gymnasium flooring. The $60,000 floor had a remaining balance of $20,000, the goal of the Jump-A-Thon.

The Jump-A-Thon included eight stations such as jump rope, moon walk, hopscotch and a basketball shoot-off, all set to music. Students rotated through the stations.

Carolyn Matej’s first-grade class raised the most money.

“I know each one of them worked very hard,” the teacher said. “We had 100 percent participation.”

The students’ prize is a day at the Conroe Family YMCA Friday, in addition to the large Easter baskets and bunny bicycles the students already received.

“They’re so excited I can hardly keep them focused,” Matej said about Friday’s outing. “I’m just proud of them for coming together in a group effort.”

First-grader Hannah Matheson received the most donations ($1,200) and received a plane ride for two over Montgomery County and a boat tour for four on Lake Conroe followed by dinner on the lake. The prize was donated by Mike and Linda Irvine.

“It was very hard,” Matheson, 7, said about raising the funds.

The $100 Club winning class was Debbie Trivett’s third-grade class, meaning each student and the teacher each raised at least $100. The class earned an ice cream sundae party at lunch and each students received a “prize packet” from Conroe’s Incredible Pizza.

Two students in each class won a top prize, and every student received a goodie bag.

Parent Linda Irvine, who used to be the school’s athletic director, started the Jump-A-Thon four years ago.

“They basically have a project they try to raise money for,” she said about the purpose of the Jump-A-Thon. “They’ve basically paid for all the equipment on the elementary playground. This year the money went to pay off the wood flooring put in two years ago.

“We had a great need when we moved from our old location. One of the things that didn’t get taken care of was the playground equipment. That’s why I started this.”

Lifestyle Christian School, located at 3993 N. Interstate 45 in Conroe, has 150 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. All 89 students in kindergarten through sixth grade participated in the Jump-A-Thon.
