St. James Episcopal School
St. James Episcopal School in Conroe, is registering for the 2009-10 school year. The school accepts ages 2 through sixth grade. The fine arts programs include art, music, computer, Spanish, physical education, religion and chapel. Before- and after-school care is available.
An open house is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 11 and includes a question-and-answer session, school tour and the opportunity to learn about the school’s Christian-based programs. Call (936) 756-4984 or visit www.stjames-conroe.org/school.
John Cooper School
Madison Maass, a third-grader at The John Cooper School, had her artwork selected by the Texas Art Education Association as one of 100 pieces that will celebrate Youth Art Month by hanging in the Texas Capitol. Maass’ tempera painting titled “Seasons” will hang in the South Extension of the Capitol March 7-14 as part of the TAEA Youth Art Month Capitol Celebration. The selected piece was created following a six-week unit titled “Extraordinary Landscapes,” taught by Cooper artist-in-residence Jayla Ash Davis. During each of the weeks leading up to the final painting, students viewed slides showing various aspects of the sun, trees, forests and clouds and practiced drawing each using various media.
Davis will join the Maass family at a special awards program and reception March 8 in Austin for student artists. Maass is the daughter of Clinton and Janet Maass, of The Woodlands.
Popular concert tickets to the Jonas Brothers concert and tickets to see rock icons Elton John and Billy Joel in Houston are among the many exciting items featured in the online gala auction in progress for The John Cooper “School of Rock” Gala. The online auction will continue until 10 p.m. March 4 and can be accessed at www.johncoopergala.cmarket.com.
A quilt designed and created by Cooper art instructor Bob Mosier is on display at the school in preparation for the live auction portion of the Gala.
The gala begins at 7 p.m. March 7 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
Opportunities for underwriting and sponsorships are available and individual tickets can be purchased for $250 each by callling the Development Office at (281) 367-0900, ext. 441.
The Woodlands Preparatory School
Seventh-grader Anna Rech represented The Woodlands Preparatory School at The Harris County Private School Regional Spelling Bee at The Village School in Houston. Rech, who has cochlear implants, has a love of etymology. She reads, writes creatively and studies Latin in her spare time.
The Woodlands Preparatory School is accepting applications for the 2009-10 school year and will have an open house from 2-4 p.m. March 8. Visit www.woodlandsprep.org.
