The Harris County Citizen Corps is in its final planning stages of the up coming Citizens Emergency Response Team Rodeo.
The CERT Rodeo is a day-long event that allows local CERT members to compete against teams from all over Texas while honing and refreshing skills they learned during their initial CERT class.
“The teams will participate in different drills like search and rescue, medical, or triage; basically we go over everything they learned in the classroom,” said Carole Chambers, CERT Coordinator for the Humble Office of Emergency Management. “It takes place at the Harris County Fire Marshall’s complex, where they have a big fire tower. One of the things participants will be asked to do is to go find numbered balls that represent people and have been scattered throughout the tower, filled with smoke.”
Chambers said CERT members are invited to register the event. Volunteers are also needed on the day of the event.
“We need people to help in various ways, like showing people where to go, signing in, helping with food and drink stands,” Chambers said. “You don’t have to be a CERT member to help and you will meet a lot of nice people from all over Texas.”
