If your new years resolution was to find ways to save money, but are still yearning to spruce up your home, useful seminars and expert advice will be available at the third annual Katy Home & Garden Show.

“In a slower economy people tend to buy new homes less and invest in their existing homes more,” Robyn Cade, president of RJC Productions, the company producing the show.

She said the show is an opportunity to “find the best deals and meet with quality service providers.”

More than 300 exhibitors are slated for the Katy Home & Garden show.  The show will be held at the Merrell Center behind Katy High School, Saturday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Even if you aren’t in the market to immediately make repairs, Cade said the show is an opportunity to meet service providers.

Meeting “service providers face to face is so much different” than just picking a name out of the phone book, Cade said.  “Wouldn’t you rather have met that person so you know that they are a quality business and not a fly-by-night company.”

The home and garden show will also be an opportunity to catch a deal on special services.

“Almost every company is offering a show special” on services, Cade said.  “This is a great way for home owners to shop for services and new products in one location.”

Parents can bring along the kids, with featured activities for them to join in the fun.

The Fort Bend Master Gardeners will provide kids with recycled materials to make planting pots and seeds for youngsters to care for.

“There is no cost, but it is a fun thing for the kids to do,” Cade said.

While the kids are exercising their green thumbs, parents can get free 10-minute consultations with the master gardeners to answer questions and offer advice to make your garden blossom.

Additionally, Cade said seminars are offered on Saturday to help people save money on energy costs by properly installing attics.

“We’re so conscience of energy costs, but if you invest right now the payoff in the long run can be huge,” Cade said.

Think a family heirloom or a garage sale find could be worth money?  Featured speaker Dr. Lori can set the record straight on whether your item is a precious find or junk.

Lori, known for her knowledge of art and antiques, as well as her humor has her own television talk program and as been a guest on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”

During each session Lori will offer 50 free appraisals for home and garden show patrols.  Lori is slated to host three sessions, two on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Admission for the show is $8.  Seniors receive a discount with admission for $6 and children are admitted free.  There is no parking fee.
