F’wood Foundation fetes FHS alums
Six people with Friendswood “roots” will become the second set of Distinguished Alumni honored by the Friendswood Education Foundation at a gala set for March 7, 2009. A True Blue Evening will honor and recognize the six for their successful careers, community service and traits of character.
The foundation fundraiser will begin at 6 pm Saturday, March 7, 2009 in the Astronauts’ Gallery at Space Center Houston.
Five honorees are Friendswood High School graduates and the sixth, an Honorary Alumnus, for contributions made during many years in FISD.
The graduates are Kent Ballard (Class of 1971), Floyd Brown (Class of 1944), Beryl Cline (Class of 1948), Jim Hill (Class of 1961) and Randy Speck (Class of 1964),
The Honorary Alumnus is Dr. David Hearn, retired surgeon and former School Board member in FISD for 16 years.
Recognition for the honorees will be centered around the Six Pillars of Character.
Randy Speck, attorney, represents the pillar of responsibility.
Beryl Cline, retired veterinarian, represents trustworthiness.
Floyd Brown, teacher/principal and dairy owner, reflects respect.
Friendswood realtor and former School Board member Kent Ballard is a model for fairness.
Dr. David Hearn, retired surgeon and school board member, projects citizenship.
Jim Hill, local businessman and current City Council member, typifies the character trait of caring.
The Six Pillars of Character is a program that is used in k-12 classrooms in Friendswood ISD. All six honorees will be placed on a Character Education poster that will be placed in every classroom in FISD.
The event is open to the public with tickets $100 per person. Tickets and tables can be reserved by contacting Friendswood ISD Education Foundation Executive Director Laura Riveron at 281-482-1267 or lriveron@fisdk12.net.
The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation was created to support the educational programs for both the students and staff of the Friendswood Independent School District. Funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, to recognize and encourage staff excellence, and to expand community involvement from individuals, businesses and civic organizations.
The Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt 501 (c)(3) public corporation operating independently under its own board of directors that shares a vision of enhancing education in Friendswood Independent School District.
