GPJC Rotary selling tickets for Million Dollar Meal

The Galena Park/Jacinto City Rotary Club is gearing up for its annual Million Dollar Meal and is asking members of the community to assist them by purchasing tickets for the fundraiser.
The Million Dollar Meal is happening from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Alvin D. Baggett Community Center, 1302 Keene St., Galena Park. It features a chili meal, a silent auction and a live auction. The meal can be packaged for dine in or take out.
The funds from the event help to raise $27,000 for scholarships for local students. The funds also help with community service projects, food and clothing drives and senior citizen activities. Tickets are $10 each.
"The Million Dollar Meal is a great opportunity to come out and meet community leaders and have some good food, fun and fellowship," said Niki Angelo-Stiyer, a club member.
There are four different sponsor levels at the event.
At the Platinum Level, for $300 sponsors receive four tickets, with their name on a banner and a flyer. At the Gold Level, sponsors receive two tickets, their name on a banner and a flyer for $200. For $100, sponsors can be on the Silver Level and receive two tickets and their name on a banner.
For the second year in a row, the club is offering a Senior Citizen Ticket Sponsor where for $100 the sponsor receives a donation of one book of tickets to be given to 10 senior citizens. They also receive a special senior sponsor banner with their name on it.
The tickets not only include the meal but a raffle as well. The drawing for first prize is for an iPod 8GB Touch. Second prize is a Tom Tom GPS and third prize is a $50 gift card that can be used anywhere. State Rep. Ana Hernandez and Congressman Gene Green sponsor the prizes.
The live auction includes television sets and a breakfast with Precinct Two Constable Gary Freeman donated by Freeman and the Jacinto City Café.
There is a ticket sale contest going on in the club where the team that sells the most tickets receives a T-bone steak mean served by the losing team.
The club has originally planned for the event to take place in October, but in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, they decided it best to hold off on it until the residents had time to recover.
