Missouri City police search for alleged kidnapping victims

Updated: 01.05.09
According to HCN news affiliate KTRK Channel 13, Missouri City police are searching for two young children, allegedly kidnapped by their biological mother during a supervised visit in Missouri City.

Missouri City resident Stanley Griffin told police he had made arrangements on Jan. 2 with LaQuanda D. Williams, the mother of 5-year-old Javante Griffin and 21-month-old Israel Griffin, Jr. for a supervised visit with the children in his home.

During the visit, Williams said the boys were hungry and Griffin left the home for about 15 minutes to travel to a local store for food, according to the news report. On his return, the boys and their mother were gone.

According to Griffin, the children’s grandfather, the mother has mental health issues.

Investigators are searching the mother’s apartment on the southwest side of Houston and also in Victoria, Texas, where she is said to have extended family, according to the news report.

Williams, who relatives said does not have transportation, is believed to have received help in taking the children away from the home.

The children’s grandfather said the boys, both African-American, were wearing Ironman pajamas at the time of the incident.

The 5-year old is described as around four feet tall, weight about 43 pounds and his 21-month-old brother is described as around two feet tall and about 24 pounds.

An Amber Alert has not been issued, according to the Channel 13 news report because police do not believe the children are in immediate danger.

In a mid-day news broadcast update on the story, Missouri City police are said to have called for the assistance of the FBI in locating the children.

Anyone with information on this incident or the whereabouts of the children is asked to contact the Missouri City Police Department at 281-403-8700.
