Apply now for gardening class
Applications are now being accepted for the Brazoria County Master Gardener winter training course to be held each Thursday from January 15 through March 19 at the Texas AgriLife Extension office, 21017 County Road 171, in Angleton.
The course features 60 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction targeted to Brazoria County’s growing conditions. Topics include soil and plant nutrition, garden ecology, home fruit production, ornamental trees and shrubs, weeds, insects and diseases, vegetable and flower gardening, herbs, tropicals, plant propagation, landscape design, home lawn maintenance, and integrated pest management.
Just $135 per person includes the official Master Gardener Handbook, speaker costs, and program support. To be certified as a Master Gardener, each participant who completes the training must also commit to 60 hours of service in the first year after completing the course.
Brazoria County Master Gardeners are volunteers who work with the Texas AgriLife Extension to improve gardening skills throughout the county. They share their gardening knowledge through community service and outreach, gardener training and a variety of educational programs.
In addition, Master Gardener volunteers develop and tend the display and trial gardens at the Education Station at Hospital Drive at Old Danbury Road (CR 171) in Angleton. The Education Station also hosts the Junior Master Gardeners, seasonal demonstrations, the Fruit and Citrus Tree Sale set for Saturday, February 21, and the annual Spring Plant Sale scheduled for Saturday, May 2.
