Ike victims get 3 more weeks to apply for aid
The window to request financial aid from FEMA was to have closed on Tuesday, but the agency has extended the deadline to Friday, Feb. 6.
FEMA announced the extension Monday, throwing yet another bone to homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered damages or losses during the September hurricane.
“Our mission is to serve everyone eligible for FEMA assistance,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Stephen M. De Blasio, Sr. “We encourage anyone who sustained damages by Ike to register with FEMA as soon as possible.”
Forms of assistance available from FEMA include:
Grants for temporary housing, essential home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources.
Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Association, available to homeowners, businesses, renters and nonprofits.
How to register
Texans who had damage or uninsured losses and have not yet registered may do so online at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362, or 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- and hearing-impaired, between 6 a.m. and midnight.

Disaster Recovery Centers are still open to assist disaster victims at:
