The College Park Lady Cavaliers opened District 14-5A play with a 77-40 drubbing at Oak Ridge Friday night.

The No. 4 state-ranked Lady Cavaliers scored the first nine points of the game, but the Lady War Eagles (12-10, 0-1) held their own for the rest of the opening quarter.

Leading 20-12 at the 6:47 mark of the second, College Park (22-2, 1-0) ripped off a 12-0 run in the next 4:45 to put the game out of reach before halftime. A 23-point lead at the break grew to 32 by the end of the third quarter.

“It was a great start to district play,” College Park coach Kip Anderson said. “We sputtered a little in the first half, but we picked it up defensively in the second half.”

Priyanka Duvvuru led the Lady Cavs with 17 points, while Allie Messimer finished with 16. The duo combined to shoot 6-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc.

“There’s always room for improvement,” Anderson said. “It wasn’t our best game.

“Even though we won big tonight we’re working to go past what we did last year.”
