Long-standing clinic introduces new ownership
By JENNIFER SUMMER
Keeping spines aligned while working on the overall health of the patient is just one of the things Dr. Lauren Baker plans to continue as she takes over for her predecessor, Dr. James Wetz, at the Advanced Health and Rehab Center in Humble.
Wetz, who just recently retired, has practiced in the Humble office for more than 20 years and put the practice up for sale a couple of months ago to retire to Austin.
“As soon as I put the office on the market, Baker responded and came and looked at the office and said, ‘I love it,’” Wetz said.
“This office is the perfect spot for her because she is young, energetic and also speaks Spanish, which will help her to accommodate a wide range of patients.”
Wetz, Baker and staff members celebrated the change of ownership and Wetz’s retirement at the clinic Dec. 23 and met with new customers.
With the new year, Baker will take over and has a lot of plans for the office, including redecorating and new machines to help patients.
Advanced Health and Rehab Center offers patients a variety of services including physical medicine, chiropractic medicine and nutrition.
“I have always enjoyed helping people with their health care needs and most of the people in my family are involved in medicine,” Baker said. “I first got involved in medicine as a trainer for the LaMarque football team and my mother was a paramedic.”
After attending several years of college, Baker answered an advertisement in the paper about a chiropractic office needing an assistant and was hired the same day.
While going through college, Baker worked as a chiropractic assistant at that office until she graduated from the Texas Chiropractic College in August 2005.
“Working as an assistant, I saw patients get better without surgery and that helped me get my foot in the door,” Baker said. “Everything fell into place for me to be a chiropractor.”
Baker has been a licensed chiropractor since 2006 and is board certified with the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
“I am so grateful Wetz gave me the chance to own my own clinic and now all I have to do is to get to know more people in the community,” Baker added.
Additionally, Baker specializes in treating children and expectant mothers and making sure all of the chiropractic and overall health needs are met.
“Ever since I opened this location years ago, we have seen an increase of customers and I know as Baker takes over there will be even more with the advances and services she is bringing to the community,” Wetz said.
Baker plans to provide an overall package of wellness for patients such as nutritional counseling, rehabilitation, core training to help patients know how to work out safely at home and a chance to help people enhance their life.
“I hope to get the chance to help patients get into better health and help them with all of their needs. I am bilingual and am here to help patients,” Baker said. “I extend an invitation for anyone to come and stop by the office and just see what we do. I am excited for the new year and new customers.”
