The Lady Trojans Basketball Team is one of the most feared teams in the district because of their talented players, but the girls have been struggling as of late.

The Lady Trojans had a short holiday break and played a lot of basketball during the rest of the break.

They began playing in the Willis Tournament where they lost three games and won one. Their losses first came from Eisenhower, 72-42, with Chelsea King leading the way with 16 points followed by Kendra Barbar’s 11 points.

The Lady Trojans then lost to Klein Oak, 74-60, despite Audrissa Harrison’s 17 points and Coco Holmes’ 14 points.

Next was Montgomery where they had a win, 62-54, as Barbar and Harrison couldn’t be stopped, each having 19 points.

To end the tournament, Dekaney sent the Lady Trojans home with another loss 55-47.

“Overall the tournament was challenging but our girls stepped up and gave it their all. We definitely grew as a team. This tournament proved to us as coaches that our girls have a lot of heart,” Coach Sherray Brooks said after the game.

The Lady Trojans lost to Crockett last Friday, 67-46, after Harrison’s stellar play with 12 points and 13 rebounds along with Holmes’ 15 points and five steals.

“We need to work on blocking out. We are doing a good job minimizing our turnovers and fouls,” Coach Brooks said.

Without any time to regroup, the Lady Trojans tipped it off the following day with Lovelady and found no success, losing 52-43. Holmes did as much as she could to keep the Lady Trojans close with 11 points, six steals and eight assists. Harrison again racked up a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Trojans are desperately seeking some momentum as they will have to find it in district against their rival, the Lady Pirates of Shepherd. They played Tuesday at home and will travel to Tarkington Friday. The results will be in next week’s paper.
