PRAIRIE VIEW — Prairie View A&M University’s Marching Storm Band and Black Foxes dance troupe will perform in the 2009 Rose Parade today.

The 120th Rose Parade, themed Hats Off To Entertainment, will take place at 10 a.m. (CST) in Pasadena, Calif.

The official announcement was held during a press conference on the PVAMU campus Aug. 29, where Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association President Ronald “Corky” H. Conzonire presented PVAMU President George C. Wright and Marching Storm Band Director George Edwards, with an official Tournament of Roses Association Rose Parade Flag in honor of the special invitation.

In addition to making its first appearance in the Rose Parade, Prairie View A&M University’s Marching Storm Band and Black Foxes dance troupe will serve as the Parade’s lead band.

The Tournament of Roses Association 2009 Rose Parade is the world’s largest festival and parade of flowers, music and sports.  During the famed Parade, PVAMU’s  performers will also deliver the inaugural performance for the Tournament of Roses Association Rose Parade pilot program to include bands from historically black colleges and universities in the parade each year.

Craig Crason, executive producer of the Honda Battle of the Bands Showcase, helped initiate the HBCU program with the Tournament of Roses Association.  In support of HBCU bands, Honda has agreed to sponsor a portion of the funds to ensure PVAMU’s appearance in the 2009 Rose Parade.
