Park website sees success after droves of viewers log on

With pictures of all of the wildlife, trails and a complete map of East End Park in Kingwood, eastendpark.com gives families and residents in the community a sneak peek of the park before they go.
Going live in June 2008, the park’s website has been a big hit and already has had more than 250,000 visitors view the page.
“We started the website because I was amazed about how many people had heard about East End Park but had not been there yet,” creator Bob Rehak said. “The first thing we did was upload a map of the park so residents could see what the park looks like and map out their own trail.”
Eastendpark.com also allows for guests to upload their own photos of the variety of wildlife featured in the park to the website for guests to view when they log on.
The website administrators select a photo of the week from the submitted photos and it is displayed on the home page.
“The Photo of the Week contest has become one of our most popular and visited attractions on our website. We have great photos of the vegetation and the various wildlife that lives in the park, including alligators, birds, bald eagles, a family of deer and other wildlife,” Rehak said.
Most of the photos were submitted by members of the Kingwood Photography Club but anyone is welcome to submit photos they have taken at East End Park.
The Kingwood Service Association has worked hard to renovate the park and make it more accessible to residents, and the website helps promote all of the amenities.
The website was designed by Mike Meyers and programmed by Stephen McFarland who also posts all of the photos submitted.
“It is unusual for a website like this to generate this much interest so we are all very excited,” Rehak said. “East End Park and the website are often spread by mouth and search engines online so that is how people find out about both.”
For future projects, they are planning to construct websites for each of the KSA parks in Kingwood for residents to find out about the amenities each has to offer.
“We are very excited and pleased at how successful our website has been and it is a good resource for families to find out more about the park,” Rehak said.
