Charity Change

Market Street’s Change for Charities program has announced the following non-profit organizations that will benefit from the program in 2009. Those chosen include the American Cancer Society Relay for Life – Montgomery County, Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County, Montgomery County Food Bank and Children’s Safe Harbor. Market Street’s Change for Charities program encourages those who park curb-side to voluntarily deposit change into one of the 69 change receptacles.

Sterling Bank

Sterling Bank announced today it will open a new full-service banking center at 1430 Research Forest Dr. in The Woodlands early next year. The new banking center will be on the north side of Research Forest between Pinecroft and Six Pines Rd. in a building formerly occupied by Wachovia Bank. Sterling is modifying the building to meet its needs and expects to be open for business by late January.


Chamber outlook

YMCA free month

South Montgomery County YMCA will be offering one free month of trial membership to any prospective members.

Thomas Markle Jewelers has announced it will open in Market Street —The Woodlands in March. The boutique’s Market Street location will mark its third in the Houston area.

Aussie pet mobile

Giving tree

Thanks to hundreds of generous angels in the community the Annual Holiday Angel Giving Tree project at the South Montgomery County YMCA was successful in making the holidays brighter for kids and families involved with the YMCA Outreach Program. The request for help was much greater than in previous years with a record number of names turned in. Holiday gifts were distributed to more than 300 children. For many of these children, this will be the only gift they receive during the holiday season.

SPD Certified

At a recent appearance before the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE), the Shenandoah Police Department was unanimously awarded a contract to provide training to other state law enforcement agencies. The contract gives Shenandoah police the ability to host and conduct professional training programs for other law enforcement agencies and report those training hours to the state for attendance credits. While they will provide some state mandated training, the focus of the training will be advanced leadership skills and law enforcement management seminars.
