The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lone Star Chapter has launched “Neighbor to Neighbor” in New Braunfels, Pearland, Plano and Round Rock. The Society is currently recruiting volunteers and persons with MS who need assistance. If interested in this opportunity as a volunteer or someone who receives service, contact Jeff Wolverton with the National MS Society at 1-800-344-4867 (press 2) or jwolverton@nmsslonestar.org.

Free Yoga class for those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Gentle Restorative Hatha Yoga Therapy improves overall well-being and symptom management. Standing and wheelchair classes. A free post adoption group for parents who have adopted children in Texas will be on Tuesdays, 7-8 p.m. starting Dec. 2. at 2225 CR 90, Ste. 119 in Pearland. Call 281-485-9280 for more information.


Special Events

Jan. 5, 6 -- Auditions for play, "The Great Escape," are Jan. 5 and 6 at 7 p.m., in the Brazoria Civic Center & Museum Auditorium. For more information for being in the play, please check the website www.bag.org. All aspiring actors and actresses in the community from age 16 to 90 are encouraged to audition! Available roles include six males, four females, and four non-speaking roles. Five of the roles are designed to be filled by mature actors and actresses, age 50 and older.

Jan. 10 -- CPR/AED for Adult/Child plus Infant and First Aid at Brazoria County Red Cross office, 120 E Myrtle, Angleton, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To register go to www.houstonredcross.org. or call 979-849-6439. Registration deadline is Jan. 8.

Jan. 10 – Get up, get out, and get active with the Pearland Parks and Recreation Department’s Winterfest event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Independence Park. Admission is free for kids 2 years old and younger. Kids 3 to 16 years old are $10, and adults 17 years old and up are $4. Bring a can of food and get $2 off the ticket price. Jan. 10 – Haak Vineyard and Winery will serve decadent chocolates paired with award-winning wines while accompanied to acoustic music by David Grace from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, go to www.haakwine.com.

Jan. 13 -- Divorced? Separated? You don’t have to go through it alone. Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 13, First Baptist of Pearland, 3005 Pearland Parkway will have the 13-week dynamic video seminars of divorce care. These sessions will be every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in room 102. Contact Pastor Raymond Cox at 281-997-9000 to enroll.

Jan. 15, Jan. 29 -- Texan Plus will host free community educational seminars to help Medicare-eligible persons learn more about their Medicare options during the Open Enrollment Period that runs from Jan.1 through March 31. Two sessions will be held at the La Quinta in Pearland at 9002 Broadway, starting at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call 972-488-4790.

Jan. 24, 25 -- The Brazoria Heritage Foundation is sponsoring the "Airing of the Quilts"

Show Jan. 24-25 at the Civic Center Gymnasium, 200 Nevada Street. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Price is $1 for one ticket or six for $5. For more information, please check their website www.brazoriahf.org or by calling Shirley Spearow at 979-798-9130.

Feb. 7 – Hope’s Angles proudly presents Passport to the World of Wine in Hope Village from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Reserved tickets are $75, general admission is $40, reserved table sponsors are $800 and wine table sponsors are $550. For more information, call 281-400-2011.

Feb. 7 – Come out for a daddy-daughter date night at the “A Royal Hearts Ball,” taking place at Pearland Junior High South from 6 to 8 p.m. It’s $40 per couple and $15 for each additional child. Dinner and entertainment are included in the ticket prices. This event is geared for girls ages 4 to 14 years old. For more information, call 281-652-1673.
