Art Institute to open northwest campus in summer

This summer, students looking to enhance their artistic abilities won’t have to drive into the loop to get an education.
The Art Institute of Houston-North will be opening the doors of their doors for the first day of classes May 14.
The new school will occupy approximately 25,000 square feet at 10740 North Gessner Drive and Beltway 8, and will begin enrolling students immediately.
This will be the second campus in Houston and the second branch from the Galleria-area location in the state after the opening of an Austin site last year.
Art Institute President Larry Horn said they have looking for a second location in Houston for the last few years, focusing on areas where a heavy concentration of students hailed from. And being accessible to the toll road was also a plus.
“When we started looking for what we thought might be an appropriate location, we looked at the areas of the city that they already drew students from and where there was growth,” Horn said.
He said that because the arts flourish and are in high demand in Houston, there is an increased the need for an additional location.
“Our students have met with great success in terms of being employed in the careers of their choice in the art field,” Horn said. “By expanding this to meet the needs of employees and to have the exposure of having the two campuses for the city, we think it’s a great asset not only to us, but to Houston at large.”
Initially, The Art Institute of Houston – North will offer bachelor’s degree programs in Fashion and Retail Management, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Media Arts and Animation, and Photography, and an associate’s degree program in Graphic Design.
