Police report
Serious crime took a holiday last week in Bellaire, according to reports from the Bellaire Police Department, after the previous week saw three armed robberies. Not all the bad guys were on hiatus, though.
Three individuals who didn’t keep an eye on their money regretted it after thieves took advantage of their lack of vigilance.
A woman shopping at H-E-B at 5130 Cedar St. at 3:25 p.m. Christmas eve told police that someone had stolen her wallet from the purse she had left in a shopping cart.
Another woman shopping at H-E-B at about 10:30 a.m. the day after Christmas reported to police that her wallet had also been taken from her purse.
At about 8:30 that evening, police took a report from a woman who complained that she had left her purse at a bus stop in the 5100 block of Bellaire Boulevard for about 10 minutes and that it was missing when she returned.
A resident in the 100 block of South Third Street made a report at the Bellaire Police Department on Dec. 23 about earrings that had been missing from the residence for about two weeks.
Unnamed items were reported missing from a residence in the 500 block of Wisteria Street at about 3 p.m. Friday. The resident showed police a picture of the stolen items and said the theft had occurred sometime between Dec. 12 and Friday.
Bellaire police recovered two stolen vehicles in recent days. The first was discovered in the 100 block of Bellaire Court shortly after 11 a.m. Dec. 24. Officers received a report of a disabled vehicle and determined it had been stolen from Houston.
A Bellaire officer observed a vehicle blocking traffic at about 3:45 a.m. Monday in the 4600 block of Cedar Street and discovered it was listed as stolen. The 39-year-old driver was arrested for unauthorized use of a vehicle and for alleged possession of a gram of crack cocaine, and a 52-year-old passenger was charged with criminal trespass of a motor vehicle.
Bellaire police took several suspected drunken drivers off the West Loop and its feeder road during the holiday week. They arrested four motorists on the Loop and one on the feeder on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and another on the feeder for public intoxication.
