Some Bay Area folks are soon going to have lighter wallets after getting crossways with the long arm of the law.
At least 29 youths ranging in age from 14 to 23 were arrested on drug charges in League City, Friendswood and Webster from Christmas through New Year's while 12 Bay Area motorists are facing charges for driving while intoxicated.
Both charges generally bring hefty legal fees for those arrested.
However, they weren't the only ones local police cited for behaving badly.
Officers arrested 29 on assault charges -- 12 in both League City and Webster, 1 in Nassau Bay and 4 in Friendswood.
Another 23 were jailed for public intoxication including 4 each in Nassau Bay, League City and Friendswood, and 11 in Webster.
Burglaries were reported at 709 E. Wilkins and at 910 Effie Ave. in League City and officers also investigated 6 motor vehicle burglaries.
The four in League City were at 615 Castle Cove Lane, 2704 Knoxville Drive, 2511 Langley Court and 2127 Anchor Point.
Two others were at 20241 Gulf Freeway and 535 W. NASA Parkway in Webster.
Three youths, Christopher Stephen Clausen, 18; Jared Trenton Rivas, 19; and Jacob Adam Fernandez, 18, were arrested by Friendswood police Dec. 30 at 211 Edgewood Drive and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and five people were arrested on shoplifting charges in League City.
Many area motorists also will have some unexpected traffic tickets to pay soon as 72 were cited for speeding last week -- 47 in League City, 1 in Friendswood, 4 in Nassau Bay and 15 in Webster.
Another 95 received traffic citations for a wide variety of offenses such as driving on an invalid license, no insurance, parking in a handicapped space, seatbelt violations, expired license, expired inspection sticker, unsafe lane change, disregarding red light, failure to yield, unsafe lane change, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to maintain single lane, parking in a fire lane, parking too close to a fire hydrant, failure to stop at designated point, disregarding traffic control device, window tint violation, no drivers license, wrong license displayed, etc.
A total of 43 League City motorists were cited for the traffic infractions, 12 in Nassau Bay, 3 in Friendswood and 40 in Webster.
