Ringing in 2009: Some New Year’s Eve hot spots

Among a range of local events and festivities planned to ring in 2009 are:

The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center will host a New Year’s Eve celebration from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. featuring a five-course dinner at its restaurant The Glass, which overlooks Lake Harrison. Anna Drake, resort spokesperson, said due to the size of The Glass, the event is typically a small, intimate affair with only about 100 people expected. A variety of dinner, ballroom dancing and R & B music is planned, Drake stated in an e-mail. Scheduled to play are both Daniel Blanchard & The Majestics and Jimmie Hunter. Located at 2301 North Millbend Drive, reservations for these events are required by calling The Woodlands Resort at 281-364-6323. At Market Street, many restaurants are planning to host special New Year’s Eve dinners and celebrations. They include: Jasper’s, Tommy Bahama’s, Tropical Café and Emporium, Cru Wine Bar and Grotto’s Ristoronte. Jasper’s menu will feature wood fire oysters, king crab stuffed beef tenderloin and butter finger crème brule, according to a press release from Market Street. Tommy Bahama’s is planning to have a band and other area restaurants will have specials, according to Jenny Taylor, Market Street activities coordinator. The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center will host a New Year’s Eve dinner this year in place of the customary New Year’s Eve ball, according to Sheron Jones, director of sales and marketing for The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center For more information, visit www.marriott.com or call 281-367-9797.

Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille in The Woodlands will feature a gourmet dining experience with live entertainment, party favors and a champagne toast from 6 p.m. to midnight. Reservations are required. Early diners pay $54.95 per person and may leave after dining and return later in the evening if they keep their receipt. Those dining after 6 p.m. pay $74.95 per person. Fellowship of The Woodlands is hosting “Denim and Diamonds,” a dressy casual New Year’s Eve party geared toward singles age 35 and older. The event will be at the church’s Woodlands campus at One Fellowship Drive. Dosey Doe Coffee House, 25911 I-45 N. in The Woodlands, will feature the entertainment of the Level One Band performing a special tribute to The Supremes from 8 p.m. until the New Year. Tickets are $64 and include your choice of entree, beverage, dessert and a champagne toast at midnight. Reservations are required. Guri do Sul Brazilian Steakhouse, 1400 Research Forest Drive in The Woodlands, will feature a live Samba band from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Live Brazilian Carnival Samba dancers will perform around 9:30 p.m.The cover charge for those not dining will be $15 per person starting at 9:30 p.m. For more information, call Guri do Sul at (281) 907-4146.

The Woodlands Christian Center is hosting a fireworks show at its campus, 24418 I-45 N. in Spring. There will be live entertainment and a spiritual message. Lasting from 8-9:30 p.m., the event is free. For more information, visit www.thewoodlandscc.org or call (281) 681-8922.

Amerigo’s Grille, 25250 Grogan’s Park Drive in The Woodlands, will have an early and late seating, each complete with a four-course meal, dancing and live music of Fahrenheit.
