Texas tree tender class offered

Texas Tree Tenders is part of the urban forestry continuing education program offered by Texas Forest Service and Heartwood Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists. Classes are offered through Lone Star College-Montgomery as part of the Adult Leisure Learning (ALL) program and is open to the public.

Class starts Jan. 26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and continues on subsequent Mondays until Feb. 23. Upon completion of all five sessions, students will receive a certificate of completion. A total of 10 instructional hours and a 6 hour field trip will comprise the class.

Topics: Designing your landscape around trees, tree selection, basic tree pruning, biology, maintenance, tree health above and below ground. A field trip will be planned along with a final graduation certificate of completion.


Instructors: John Warner is the urban district forester with the Texas Forest Service. He is a certified forester, certified arborist and certified Texas Master Naturalist. Anita “Ash” Ashford is a Texas Master Naturalist Heartwood Chapter and worked on numerous community Wildscape projects.

Location: William Goodrich Jones State Forest classroom, 1328 FM 1488 in Conroe.
