Eleventh-grade students at The John Cooper School will host the annual Junior Class Garage Sale from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 10.
Proceeds will be used for the Junior/Senior Prom and will go toward a senior class gift to the school from the Class of 2010. The garage sale will have a collection of smaller items, such as books, CDs, videos, clothing, toys and cooking tools, as well as larger items such as electronic equipment, furniture and athletic equipment.
The John Cooper School will host an Admission Open House Jan. 10. Prospective families interested in more information about prekindergarten through 12th-grade classes for the 2009-10 academic year are invited to join administrators, teachers and students for an Admission Open House at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on campus.

During the holidays, a traditional time for giving and receiving, each grade of The John Cooper Middle School selects a different outreach activity to promote as part of the “Cooper Cares” Drive, and all three grades united efforts for a fourth project.
Sixth grade sponsored “Operation Christmas Child” and filled 17 shoe boxes with school supplies, toiletries, small toys and candy for needy children around the world through the Samaritan’s Purse organization. Seventh-grade raised funds for “Give A Gift of Hope” for Heifer International, an organization that helps families out of poverty by raising money to buy animals and livestock for families in the United States and abroad to have a self-reliant way to make a living. Eighth grade focused on the Montgomery County Food Bank program “Backpacks for Kids” and collected healthy snacks that can be easily placed in a child’s backpack.
The middle school also collected stuffed animals for the “Hug-A-Bear-For-The-Holidays” project, initiated by Cooper junior Ranjeet Paul when he was in middle school. This year’s drive collected 128 stuffed animals for sick and recovering children at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Lower school students at The John Cooper School and their families gathered gifts for the Montgomery County Salvation Army “Giving Tree” throughout the latter part of December. On Dec. 17, members of Cooper’s Lower School Student Council helped representatives from the Salvation Army load their truck to the brim with gifts. The annual service project is coordinated each year by Lower School Administrative Assistant Margie Koehl. In addition to gifts for children and senior citizens, the drive collected more than $930 on a “Dress Down Day,” when students could purchase the opportunity to dress out of dress code and raise funds for the Salvation Army.
