Construction of a new Interstate 45 overpass at Texas 105 will shut down the road under the interstate bridge Jan. 9-12
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation announced the closing of Texas 105 under the bridge, beginning at 9 a.m. Jan. 9 and ending at 5 a.m. Jan. 12, in order in place steel bridge beams for the expansion of Interstate 45.
“This is a big project that can’t be completed overnight,” Don Norwood, TxDOT area construction supervisor said. “Once construction crews get started, we have to keep at it until this part of the job is finished.”
A dozen beams, each 310 feet long, will be installed over Texas 105 on elevated concrete piers already completed and in place, according to Norwood. Because of the nature of the work, all 12 beams must be installed before the busy roadway can be reopened.
“We realize this is a major traffic interruption,” he said. “We waited until after the holidays and checked with the Chamber of Commerce and other sources to determine a schedule that would limit disruption as much as possible.”
Westbound traffic on Texas 105 will be detoured up the northbound frontage road to the Wilson Road overpass and then back down the southbound frontage road. Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto the southbound frontage road to FM 2854 and back north on the northbound frontage road during construction.
Law enforcement officers will be stationed at both the Wilson Road and FM 2854 intersections at the interstate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to facilitate traffic during construction, according to Norwood.
The overpass construction is part of a $175 million loop-to-loop expansion of I-45 that will expand 4-1/2 miles of the highway to eight lanes between Loop 336 South and Loop 336 North in Conroe.
Expansion of the interstate by Williams Brothers Construction of Houston is scheduled to be completed by 2011, according to Norwood.
“We’re currently on schedule or a little ahead,” he said. “Our goal is to open the expanded facilities as quickly as possible.”

" I rarely travel that area but when I do it almost send chills down my spine! It is a nightmare! Not too many ways around it, so I suck it up! "

" I hope they fix Highway 105 West on the East (E. Davis Rd.?) and add more lanes going under the freeway. At the light from the post office when trying to go back to I-45, there is no right hand turn. Many block the intersection from the opposite side, causing many to delay or miss their turn at the light. I never see CPD write tickets at this intersection. They could buy their own helicopter if they did fine violators, there are so many.
There should be designated lanes from 105E. turning left towards Houston, and turning right towards Huntsville. And there should be 3 lanes of traffic going under the freeway to 105W. in front of Home Depot. That would be a smooth transaction.
Will cross my fingers and hope this big fix fixes the bigger picture! Now would be the best time to repair that intersection from 105. That would be a proper repair. "

" Note to self....do not even think about driving on that side of town for those days. It is already crazy there around 4:30 every afternoon. We are pretty good about staying away in peak hours. Now it is days of peak hours.
It should be nice stretch of road when done. I guess we can congest traffic near the north loop from now on when it goes to two lanes by the outlet mall. "
