Shepard named top offensive player in Class 5A
The Associated Press named Cypress Ridge High School senior quarterback Russell Shepard the Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday morning, when the AP released its All-State high school football team.
Shepard, who will play for LSU in 2009, threw for 1,458 passing yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 17 touchdowns. The All-State team is selected based on regular season performance. Including the postseason, Shepard passed for 20 touchdowns and ran for 28.
“Russell Shepard is very deserving of every award and accolade that comes his way,” said Cy Ridge head coach Gary Thiebaud. “He’s a great quarterback, leader, competitor and humanitarian. We will hear great things about Russell for many years to come, both on the athletic field and in our society.”
Cy Creek High School senior quarterback Austin Pugliese was selected Honorable Mention All-State Offense.
Cy Woods High School senior linebacker Patrick West was named Honorable Mention All-State Defense.
