The Lady Deer opened district play with a victory over Sam Rayburn. The leading scorers for the game were: Karlie Sweeney, 10; Kirbie Ferrell, 8; Kaylon Lawson, 6; Soleil Watters, 6; Derryn Hebert, 5; Morgan Dixon, 4; Sue Nettles, 2; Allison Hernandez, 2.

8th A wins bronze

The Deer Park 8A boy’s basketball team took the bronze division in the San Jacinto Basketball Invitational this past weekend. In the first game Deer Park defeated Nolan Ryan Middle School 37-29. Daniel Grider had 15 points while Gody Goad added 10. The Fawns then lost a hard fought game to Thompson 31-25. Grider had 13 points and Wilson Carlisle added 6. In the semi finals Deer Park defeated Baytown Junior 44-32. Grider had 14 while Bailey Darden and Jacob Hickman added 8. In the finals the Fawns faced Friendswood. Despite being down by 11 the Fawns fought back and beat the Mustangs 35-32. Goad had 7 points followed by Grider and Carlisle 6 each; Hickman and “BIG” George Gonzalez had 4 while Grant Mobley and Bailey Darden had 3 each. Thomas Lopez and Daniel Lamic added some key steals down the stretch.

Daniel Grider was named to the All Tournament Team.

Berry Miller 248th B 9

The 8b Lady Fawns lost to Berry Miller 9-24. Taylor Obenberger led the team in scoring with 3 points, while Hailey Perry and Taylor Overstreet each had 2 points apeice and rounding out the scoring was Erica Harris with 1 point. Taylor Overstreet led the team in rebounding with 6 while Courtney O’Sullivan and Amanda Dahnke each had 4 apiece. Courtney O’ Sullivan led the team in steals with 4 while Hailey Perry and Amanda Dahnke each had 4 steals. The Lady Fawns will next play in the Fairmont Tournament the first weekend in January.

7th B 33Berry Miller 12

The girls 7b basketball team improved their record on Thursday to 5-2 on the season defeating Berry Miller 33-12. Lauren Brock led the teams offense with 10 points followed by Madison Gray with 7 and Lauren Rife with 6 points. Cherie Rosenauer and Marlo Lamb both contributed with 4 points each followed by Taunie Jimenez with 2 points. Lauren Rife and Cherie Rosenauer led the defense with 4 steals each. Congratulations to the girls on a great game.

Friendswood 127th B 5

The girls 7b basketball team finished 2nd in their tournament last weekend. The girls defeated Pearland West 18-8 and Deepwater 14-7 to make it to the championship game where they were defeated by Friendswood 12-5 after a hard fought game. Lauren Brock led the offense this weekend with 8 points followed by Madison Gray and Cherie Rosenauer with 6 points each. Madi Williston also contributed with 5 points follwed by Morgan Harper, Miranda Matuscak, Lauren Rife, Taunie Jimenez, Aimee Miller and Marlo Lamb with 2 points a piece. Congratulations to the girls on a great tournament.

7th A takes third

The 7A Girls Basketball Team won 3rd place in the Deer Park Tournament this weekend. The girls defeated Deepwater 16-8. Saturday morning the girls were defeated by a tough Westbrook team 15-33. In the third place game, the girls rallied to beat Seabrook 18-16. Leading scorers for the tournament were Jillian Hacker with 13 points, Chelsea York with 12 points and Abby Hawthorne with 8 points. Leading the team in rebounds were Hannah Booher, Hacker and Hawthorne with 6 each. York led the team in assists with 5, while Alana Tinker had 2. Michelle Linton led the team in steals with 3. Others contributing to the win were Adrianna Fraga, Kara Sollock, Mariah Mills, Jocelyn Schoppe, Jessica O’Brien and Jada Knott. The girls play at Berry Miller Thursday.

8th B takes second

The Lady Fawns won 2nd place in the Deepwater Tournament this past weekend beating Pearland West 34-3, Pearland East 24-22 and then losing to Fairmont 4-20.

Courtnty O’ Sullivan led the team in scoring with 16 points she also had 12 rebounds and 8 steals.

Amanda Dahnke had 13 points, 16 rebounds and 6 steals.

Alyssa Crawley had 12 points, 14 rebounds and 7 steals.

Taylor Overstreet had 5 points, 18 rebound and 4 steals.

Hailey Perry had 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Other contributing to the win include: Becca Rodriguez, Tiffany Ramos, Alicia Nettles, Lauren Oehler, Taylor Obenberger, Lillia Gonzalez, Annslee Davidson, Erica Harris and Amanda Anatra.

The 7B Girls basketball dominated Pearland West with a score of 32-2. Top scorers for the night were Taryn Munoz, Brianna Vasquez, Selena Delacruz, Abbie Butler, Samantha McMahon, Jenna Fife, Leslie Nava, Katherine Metcalf, Hannah Malley, Christian Guzman, and Alaska Reed. Staying agressive on defense were Jenna Fife, Michelle Vu, Katherine Metcalf, Skye Garcia, and Madison Davis!

8th B 43Pearland West 8

The 8B girls basketball team beat Pearland West by a score of 43-8. The girls came out ready to play leading after the first quarter 20-0. Every girl on the team scored for the Vikings. Leading the scoring was Malorie Lee with 8 points. Followed up by Kaylee Shoemaker with 7 points and Erika Stephens with 6 points. Ashley Warren and Taylor Tice both had 4 points each. Katie Tadlock, Madeline Wadworth, LaChelle Wilmeth, Jessica Valverde, Dominyque DeLeon, and Allison Smith all had 2 points a piece. It came down to 3 seconds left in the game and Kaylee Shoemaker saw Bailey “Buff” Davis underneath the goal and Bailey being the only Viking that has not scored, hit the final 2 points of the game in the final second. Taylor Tice led the Vikings in rebounds with 8 boards. Katie Tadlock, Ashley Warren, Dominyque DeLeon, and Allison Smith all had 5 rebounds each. Bailey Davis, Madeline Wadsworth, Malorie Lee, and Jessica Valverde all had 4 rebounds a piece. LaChelle Wilmeth, Kaylee Shoemaker, and Erika Stephens all had 2 rebounds each. Leading the team in steals was Kaylee Shoemaker with 8 steals. Erika Stephens was right behind her with 5 steals. Bailey Davis, Katie Tadlock, Madeline Wadsorth, Ashely Warren, and Jessica Valverde all had 2 steals each. Kaylee Shoemaker led the team with 3 blocked shots. Katie Tadlock and Allison Smith both had 1 blocked shot each. “I am so proud of the girls and how they showed character both on and off the court and taking care of a win. We have a GREAT start going into zone. Way to go girls!” said coach Milliorn.

7th A 22Pearland West 17

Congratulations to the 7a girls on beating Pearland West 22-17. Leading scorer for the game was Madison Johnson with 9 points. Morgan Plunkett and Caitlin Plocheck with 4 points a piece. Fabiola Cuza had 3 points and McKayla Gastian had 2 points. Leading the offensive and defensive rebounding category was Caitlin Plocheck with 6 rebounds. Madison Johnson and Madison Haltom had 4 rebounds a piece. McKayla Gastian had 3 rebounds. Devannn Hebert had 3 rebounds. Morgan Plunkett, Sarah Freshour, Kelsey Davis and Fabiola Cuza had 1 rebound a piece. Coach Lamberth states, “Defense was the key to last night’s ball game. Pearland West was quicker and taller than us and the girls hustled back and stopped the shots from making it to the basket. Free throws were imperative at the end of the game and I was proud of how the Lady Vikings kept their cool and made their shots. Great job ladies and have a wonderful holiday.”

7th B wins consolation

Fairmont 7B girls took home the consolation prize this weekend at the basketball tournament. The weekend started off rough on Friday with a loss to Friendswood Jr. High, but the Lady Vikings picked up their spirit and came back Saturday ready to play. They beat Bonnet Jr. High with a score of 27-4. Lead scorers were Michelle Vu and Hannah Malley both with a 2-pointer and a nothing-but-net 3-pointer, Leslie Nava scored 2, Samantha McMahon with 2, Kathrine Metcalf with a whopping 8 points, Madison Davis with 2, Skye Garcia with 2, and Abbie Butler with 4. They went on to defete Pearland West with a score of 20 to 2. Brianna Vasquez stood tall at the post position scoring 8 points, Cristain Guzman scored 2, Hanna Malley scored 2, Leslie Nava with 2, Samantha McMahon, Taryn Munoz, and Madison Davis all had 2 points each. Amazing defense was played by Selena DelaCruz, Skye Garcia, Abbie Butler, Miranda Caffall, and Alaska Reed. Coach Sillavan is so proud and thinks that the team is improving every day.

8th A wins tourney

Fairmont 8B girls basketball team won 1st place in the Deepwater tournament. The girls came out and beat Friendswood in a nail biter by a score of 14-12. That win put them in the winner’s bracket to play Bonnette. The girls came out strong and beat the Bobcats 42-5. It was a very offensive game with every girl on the team scoring at least one bucket. It was a great success. That win put them in the championship against Deer Park Junior High. The girls came out ready to play and put it to the Fawns keeping them scoreless in the second half and winning the championship by a score of 20-4.

Leading scorers for the weekend were Erika Stephens with 15 points, Kaylee Shoemaker with 12 points, Madeline Wadsworth with 9 points. Bailey Davis and Jessica Valverde both with 8 points. Ashley Warren had 6 points, LaChelle Wilmeth and Taylor Tice both had 4 points. Malorie Lee and Allison Smith had 3 points a piece. Katie Tadlock and Dominyque DeLeon both had 2 points.

Leading the team defensively was Kaylee Shoemaker with 20 steals and Erika Stephens with 14 steals. Ashley Warren and Jessica Valverse both had 7, Malorie Lee and Bailey Davis both ahd 4 steals. Madeline Wadsworth, LaChelle Wilmeth, Katie Tadlock, Taylor Tice, and Dominyque DeLeon all had 3 steals a piece. Leading the boards for the tournament was Malorie Lee with 17 rebounds, Followed up by Erika Stephens, Katie Tadlock, Allison Smith and Ashley Warren all with 12 rebounds a piece.

“The girls had a great weekend. I was so proud of them. The showed caracter both on and off the court. Way to go girls — 6 and O,” said Coach Milliorn.

7th A takes second

Congratulations to the 7A Lady Vikings on taking 2nd place at the Deer Park tournament. The girls played Pearland East and beat them 27-5.

Saturday afternoon, they played Seabrook and defeated them 26-10. Alexis Halling went down with an ankle injury in the second half of the game. She was out for the rest of the tournament. Due to their team mate going down with an injury, the girls were determined to make it to the championship game at 4:00. They did it when they beat Seabrook.

The girls had to face an extremely tough team for the championship match. That team was Westbrook Intermediate and the Lady Vikings were unable to take it to them like planned. They lost; but they never gave up. The hustle and desire was there until the last buzzer! Coach Lamberth states, “It was tough to see Alexis get hurt and be out, but the girls stepped up to the plate and filled in the gaps that needed to be filled.When Madison Johnson heard that Hallings was out for the rest of the day, she hustled back from her state soccer tournament to be there for the championship game. All the girls played well. I was very proud of them! Great job ladies!”

Stats for Saturday’s games as follows: Leading scorer was Caitlin Plocheck with 18 points. McKayla Gastian and Alexis Halling had 6 points; . Fabiola Cuza had 5 points; . Devann Hebert had 3 points; . Kelsey Davis had 2 points; . and Sarah Freshour had 1 point.

Also contributing to the 2nd place finish were Maddie Haltom and Madison Johnson with fierce and intimidating defense!
