TABC - Minor Stings Correspond with School Holidays

Updated: 12.18.08
Special to the Villager

The winter holidays are right around the corner, and young people are making plans to enjoy their time off. In preparation, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) agents, Conroe Independent School District Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Conroe Police Department, Montgomery County Precinct 2 and 3 Constables Offices, and the Shenandoah Police Department will be conducting minor stings at local retail establishments in the Montgomery County area. Under the close supervision of law enforcement personnel, young people who are obviously underage will be going into licensed establishments and attempting to buy alcoholic beverages. With the upcoming holidays, law enforcement will use these compliance checks as a proactive approach to reduce the purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. Clerks who sell alcoholic beverages to a minor will be arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Sale of alcoholic beverages to a minor is a Class A Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $4,000 and/or up to a year in jail. Furthermore, the licensed entity faces administrative charges that could result in a fine, suspension, or cancellation of their permit.

To report underage drinking or other alcohol violations, contact the TABC hotline at 888-THE-TABC, send an email to complaints@tabc.state.tx.us or contact Conroe ISD Police Department’s Safe School Crime Stoppers at 1-888-KID-CHAT (543-2428). All calls are anonymous.
