Christian school expands
HEMPSTEAD - Community Christian Academy is currently raising money with the anticipation of building a new structure for their 4th and 5th grade classes due to mandated changes. The school is also considering offering a 6th grade with intended yearly increments until reaching the 8th grade. This expansion is entirely contingent upon the presence of optimal conditions that would be necessary to insure success.
The first fundraiser was for ads in their school directory. The directory will be made available for the public through any of the directory sponsors. Future fundraiser efforts will be useful, and necessary, in accomplishing the stated objectives. CCA welcomes the community’s continued involvement through donations of time, material, money and prayers. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, the CCA Building Fund is registered at the Trustmark Bank in Hempstead.
Community Christian Academy was founded in May of 1995 as a response to the needs of the community for a Christian alternative to the school system. Sharon Thomas and Barbara Spreen both helped set up and run the first private Christian school in the community through Community Chapel in 1984. Ten years later Community Chapel closed the school portion of their ministry prompting Sharon and Barbara to found Community Christian Academy.
Though CCA has no church affiliation, it was Sharon and Barbara’s strong desire to maintain the presence of a Christian school in the community. Seven of the staff currently at CCA were also employed at Community Chapel. All consider it a privilege to teach children about God’s word according to God’s perspective and standards. As the curriculum is college prep, strong in phonics, math, and language, it is not unusual for many of the tested students to score in the top 25-10% nationally in the achievement tests.
Beyond the challenging curriculum, most parents would represent their number one reason for sending their children to CCA is the stable and safe environment in which the students can learn and advance.
CCA is currently in its 13th year and continues to appreciate every opportunity to be a part of shaping each child’s life. As Benjamin Franklin so aptly stated, “Genius without education is like silver in the mine.”
