The Waller Area Chamber of Commerce’s First Annual Miss Jr Waller County Pageant will feature 15 contestants competing for $6,000 in scholarships and the privilege of being crowned the first Miss Jr. Waller County at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 6th at the Waller Junior High School Auditorium located at 2402 Waller Street in Waller. In addition to the crown, the winner of the pageant will receive a $3,000 scholarship and a paid entry fee into the Miss Texas Teen Pageant.
On Oct. 29th, the contestants attended an orientation held at the Secret Garden Tea Room in Hempstead where they received encouragement from Pageant Chairman Kim Parmer and words of advice from Mrs. Waller County B.J. Ryan, who will be matron of ceremonies for the event along with Waller County Pct. 3 Commissioner Terry Harrison. On Nov. 2, a photo session for the contestants was held at the Waller County Historical Museum in Brookshire. The photos were courtesy of Vince Yokom of Yokom Properties, who also provided the design and content of the new Miss Jr. Waller County website at www.missjwc.org.
The pageant recently received a major show of support with a commitment from Sim-Tex, L.P. to donate $10,000 towards the scholarships that will be presented through the WACC’s pageant program. “Through the generosity of Sim-Tex, we were able to immediately increase the amount and number of scholarships we were able to award in the pageant’s first year. The response we continue to receive from local businesses and the community is overwhelming. This pageant will showcase 15 of the brightest and sharpest young ladies in the Waller County community,” stated Trey Duhon, president of the WACC. “In addition, Sim-Tex and Edmonds Insurance’s commitment to underwrite the pageant will help to establish the pageant as a permanent community event for years to come.” Duhon added.
Pageant Chairman Kim Parmer commented that “The orientation and training that have been provided by Mrs. Waller County B. J. Ryan, in addition to the experience of preparing and competing in an event in front of an large audience, where the contestants will answer interview questions, will give these young ladies a sense of confidence and self-esteem that will undoubtedly help them in the future. And the scholarship prizes will in no doubt enable some of these young ladies to fully realize their potential with scholarships being presented to the top 5 contestants.”
Contestants who will vie for the crown on Dec. 6th are Ashley Davison, Shelby Fellers, Desiree Frasuto, Montana Harper, Liese Harrell, Logan LeBlanc, Kelsi Patterson, Kelsie Robison, Brittany Riemer, Megan Rogers, Meagan Schmidt, Shaela Stautmeister, Kaelyn Thompson, Cynthia Wilkerson, and Jenna Wade. All contestants are sponsored by local businesses. The WACC is still looking for local residents in any branch of the armed services to serve as escorts for the contestants on-stage during the pageant.
