Churches come together to present Christmas musical

By ANNA SCHUMANN
Updated: 11.28.08
Crossing the denominational line that sometimes separates churches, two Tomball congregations have decided to come together this holiday season to present a unified message through a Christmas musical.

“King of Glory, King of Love” is being presented by ChristBridge Fellowship and Graceview Baptist Church Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at ChristBridge, 29510 Tomball Pkwy. The show is presented for free and childcare and refreshments will be provided.

Chris Chapel, associate pastor of praise and worship at Graceview, said he got the idea to work with other churches over the summer.

“I really wanted to do something different from what we normally do, which was by our people, for our people,” Chapel said. “I wanted to reach across denominational restraints and show people that Tomball desires to come together to celebrate this wonderful God.”

Chapel said the production is not so much a play as it is a narrative with live music and several opportunities for audience participation.

Craig Williams, worship and student pastor at ChristBridge, said the music will be the message and the production’s title will come across throughout the presentation.

Williams said he was excited when Chapel approached him with the idea of working together.

“We take the ‘bridge’ in our name to mean a bridge to members of our church, other churches and those outside the church,” he said.

The result of Chapel’s and Williams’ efforts is what Williams called a “melting pot” of both churches, around 70 youth and adults involved.

Chapel said he hopes in the future, more churches will want to be involved in the production.

“We don’t want it to be Graceview presents or ChristBridge presents,” he said. “We want to present it as a community for our community under the banner of God’s love.”
