Just in time for the annual Christmas tree lighting at City Hall, the city of Pasadena is slowly getting into the holiday spirit.

The outdoor Christmas tree lighting for the city of Pasadena will take place on Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. Workers are busy decorating the lawn of City Hall at 1211 Southmore in anticipation of the big event.

The traditional Christmas tree at City Hall was blown down by Hurricane Ike but officials have assured that the tree lighting event will be festive with several returning attractions, like the petting zoo, hay rides and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

The Circle of Trees, located inside City Hall, is another city tradition which people may participate in. Decorated trees populate City Hall with various groups throughout Pasadena displaying their Christmas spirit.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, the city will host its community Christmas celebration at Heritage Park Museum, where residents are invited to come celebrate the holidays while paying tribute to Pasadena’s own history.

The next week, for the first time, the city will join forces with the Strawberry Festival for a new addition to Pasadena’s yuletide lineup, the Holiday Lighted Parade, a mile-long caravan beginning in the Red Bluff parking lot at the Pasadena Fairgrounds.

Entries can include anything from a pick-up truck and trailer to a motorcycle, he said.

On that same day, the city will hold its annual Santa photo event at the Fairmont branch of the Pasadena Public Library, where residents can bring their children for a photo op with Santa. There is no charge, but parents are encouraged to bring their own camera.
