Highlands Storefront Adopts Twelve Families for Thanksgiving

Updated: 11.26.08

Sheriff Thomas’ Highlands Storefront provided Turkey’s and all the fixing’s to twelve families, on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. With the assistance of counselors from Highlands, B.P. Hopper, Clover Leaf, North Shore, Tice and Green Valley Elementary, the well deserved families were chosen to receive a meal fit for a king.

Deputy Luna advised that one of the sponsors that were to provide the turkey’s backed out on the scheduled day of delivery. However, the storefront deputies scrambled at the last minute knowing that a Thanksgiving meal is incomplete without a turkey. The Kroger’s in Crosby allowed the storefront to purchase twelve turkeys at an affordable price of $100. The box received by the families included green beans, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, yams, cranberry sauce, gravy mix, cornbread mix, bread, tea, pumpkin and pecan pies, along with a turkey. A total of 25 adults and 50 children were the recipients for this year’s Thanksgiving meals.

The storefront is able to purchase these meals by money donated to the storefront through the Citizen’s Police Academy. District 3 C.P.A. President David Moon and Jerry Werrner assisted the deputies in delivering the meals. Deputy Luna and Deputy McCool encourage the entire community to band together and help those that are less fortunate. Anyone wanting to make a donation to this worthy cause should contact the storefront at 281-843-4047.
