Tac officers arrest suspected pill dealer at apartments

A tip from an irate uncle led authorities to a suspected drug dealer who allegedly peddled his illegal wares at a Kingwood apartment complex.

According to Tactical Officer Greg Green of the Houston Police Department Kingwood Division, authorities received a call from the uncle of a young teenager who stated that Andrew Bale, 27, of Kingwood, had sold prescription drugs to his nephew.

Green said he followed up on the tip the same day, at around 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21, and conducted surveillance at Kings Crossing Apartments in the 4500 block of Kingwood Drive for about two hours, watching Bale, who was visiting at the apartment complex, from an unmarked car.

“I could clearly see that he was carrying a pill bottle in his pocket, so I called in my colleagues Whitworth and Adkins, who arrived in marked police vehicles and detained Bale,” Green said.

There was no prescription label on the pill bottle Green had seen during his stake-out. It contained about 200 Lortab tablets, a pain killer containing hydrocodone, similar to Vicodin. Green estimated that drug dealers sell the tablets for about $5 per pill.

At the time of his arrest, Bale also had $675 in cash on him. That’s a lot of money for a man who said he was unemployed, Green said.

Bale was charged with a felony narcotics offense and has since been released from Harris County Jail on bond. He is scheduled to appear in the 248th District Court for arraignment Dec. 9.
