Lenny’s restaurant founder dies

By Brad Meyer
Updated: 12.04.08
An innovative Montgomery County businessman and restaurateur discovered dead Tuesday leaves behind a legacy of a growing number of franchise restaurants that bear his name.

The body of Lenny Moore, founder of Lenny’s Sub Shops, was found early Tuesday morning in the offices of CLM Franchise Consultants, located at 12800 W. Davis in Conroe.

According to the Conroe Police Department, Moore died of a single gunshot wound. Based on the investigation, authorities do not suspect foul play.

Moore and longtime partner Tom Clatterbuck own the largest operating group of Lenny’s Sub Shops in the nation, operating in Mississippi and Florida, as well as Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend, Brazoria and Galveston counties in Texas.

The original Lenny’s Sub Shop opened in a Memphis suburb in 1998. Both Moore and Clatterbuck relocated in 2005 to Montgomery County.

The businessmen have been developing 90 Lenny’s outlets in the Greater Houston area and recently announced the creation of a new restaurant concept, Buck’s Burgers. The first facility is slated to open in the Conroe Marketplace center at 2960 Interstate 45 North in the near future.

Clatterbuck could not be reached for comment.

" Never heard of Lenny's? Whiskyecho, you are missing out. Lennys beats Subway and Quiznos hands down. There is one on Reasearch Forest in The Woodlands and one on HWY105 near the Conroe High School. Do yourself a favor and try it. I hope this loss does not effect the businesses, They are great for the community, and there is a large number of employees who need the work. The Lenny's locations are all pro Law Enforcement, and have service that is beyond compair. The loss of the owner is hard on the comunity and business, but the loss of both the owner and the business would be devistating. "

IF the opportunity comes up, I'll take your advice.

Haven't been to a Quiznos and the one Subway visit was just "ok".

When in the woodlands, and hungry, I'll order at Jason's. I also want to try that new Deli (no pun) that was written about on this site - a chicago guy, out of retirement, opened a place - in the same strip mall in which Debby's is located (on 105)

By the way I didn't think much of Katz's on 45, across from the woodlands mall "

" So, truly sad. If this is the man that I am thinking of he was a great man!

When he opened his first store on Research we went in and he struck up a conversation with us and told us of the history behind Lenny's. Whenever I went in after that he always remembered me and would take time to chat!

Such a kind man! He will be missed!

May the Lord bless his family and comfort them during this difficult time! "

" So sad. Will be interested in learning more about this. So Brad Meyer, are you saying Lenny Moore committed SUICIDE? At least that is what you elude to when saying authorities do not suspect foul play, and Lenny died of a bullet to the head.

So Brad, who dunn it?? "
