County appoints Rhoads

On Tuesday, November 25, Waller County Commissioner Bill Eplen appointed county engineer Orval Rhoads as member of the Transportation Policy Council and appointed the assistant engineer as the member of the Technical Advisory Committee. The rest of Commissioners Court approved the appointments unanimously.
Commissioners Court approved the request for 2009 Road and Bridge Salaries and position titles, with Commissioner Terry Harrison opposing the approval.
They also opened road and bridge bids on various tasks, including mowing contracts; debris removal, reduction and disposal; sign and warning materials and barricade warning lights; field sand; lubricants; repair parts for heavy road building equipment; gasoline and diesel fuels, used tank cars; reinforced concrete pipe; and bridge materials, lumber and pilings.
The court approved and accepted the Plat and Dedication of Houston Oaks Subdivision, Section 2. They also authorized the County Auditor to publish a notice, establishing the speed limit and installation of speed limit signs on Robinhood Road, from Joseph Road to Lakeside Drive, as 30 mph. In addition, they approved giving notice of a public hearing for the speed limit and speed limit signs during the regular session of Commissioners Court on December 23.
Commissioners approved the request by the county treasurer to approve the investment policy, treasurer’s report, and to pay 2008 property tax due on the Brown County School property. They added the termination of the bid contract on stabilized sand with Hallett Materials to the minutes.
They amended the 2008 salary order to accommodate 911 addressing, and approved requests by the auditor to approve all official documents and monthly reports. They ratified line item budgetary transfers and accounts payable, and amended the 2008 budget to accommodate the allotment of longevity payments for the District Attorney’s assistant prosecutors.
In a workshop that met after the regular meeting, commissioners discussed how to handle DPS cell phones beginning in 2009.
